Approximately 100 feet of the chain link railing had been torn down. This type of vandalism to the bridge poses a serious public safety hazard and may ultimately result in permanent closure. The damages are estimated to be several thousand dollars. 05/20/08 On May 19 th, 2007, there was a report of a 2006 Bombardier Outlander 650XT 4X4 being stolen from Dream Marine. The theft occurred sometime between 5 pm Sunday and 7 am Monday morning. The value of the four wheeler is $5800.00. 10/22/07 The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is requesting your help in the apprehension of suspects in a string of burglaries in the Libby area. Area businesses and residents are asked to report any suspicious persons or vehicles in their area to the Sheriff’s Office immediately. Please be aware of any vehicles in the area of your residence as you are away for any period of time. The burglaries are taking place during day and evening hours, there is no set time on them. 07/23/07 On Sunday June 10 th, 2007, there was a report of vandalism of a RV barn at 3675 Kootenai River Road in Libby. There were broken windows in the barn and sheet rock mud spread all around. There was also damage to a work van that was parked there with the driver side window and windshield broken. Stolen items included a ½ inch Black and Decker drill valued at $59.00 and a purple DVD player valued at $5.00. The estimated damages to the van were approximately $314.00. 05/23/07 On Friday February 9 th, a burglary was reported on the 800 block of Farm To Market Rd. Several items were taken from the residence including; silver earrings with a flower hanger, star fire earring with silver strings, silver with black stone earrings and necklace, silver heart earrings, silver and Montana blue sapphire necklace and earrings, silver and blue earrings, peach stone with silver strings, silver necklace with 4 blue diamonds, green and silver earrings, set of 5 prescription Acuvue contacts, 3-D bead set, Sony camcorder, Blaupunkt CD Player with detachable face, seamans chest, belly dancer tapestry, 5 lawn chairs, wicker chest, green planter, yellow china with flowers, box of Disney movies. Estimated value of stolen items is $2800.00. 03/13/07 On March 13 th at approximately 0455 am it was reported that the window of the front door at Mac’s Market had been broken. Damage to the door is estimated at approximately $200.00. 01/08/07 On Saturday January 6 th, it was reported that there was an extensive amount of vandalism at the antlers restaurant. Patio furniture had been thrown about and grease barrels had been poured on various items. A fifth wheel was severely damaged with windows broken out, as well as kerosene poured all over the interior. Damage is estimated approaching $20,000. 12/15/06 The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in locating thieves and vandals that have been roaming the neighborhoods near Vanderwood. They have been entering vehicles, stealing the contents, and discarding unwanted items nearby. They stole a fire extinguisher discharging it into a vehicle as well as several mailboxes. Damage and theft estimates are approaching one thousand dollars and the number of victims is approaching 15. 09/27/06 During the weekend of September 15th to September 17th, 2006, unknown person vandalized a new restroom facility and parking lot at the Keeler Rattle Trailhead located south of Troy. The Restroom toilet seat, walls, and vent pipe were damaged in addition to damaging the parking lot by severely rutting the site. This facility has just been completed utilizing County, Forest Service and Snowmobile club funds and labor. 08/31/06 On Wednesday, August 16th at 1:18 am, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a burglary in progress at the Kicking Horse Saloon. Upon arrival deputies found a broken window at the front of the saloon. A search of the building did not turn up a suspect. Three bottles of alcohol and a cash box containing an undisclosed amount of money was taken. 08/03/06 On Thursday, July 27th at approximately 4:30 pm, the Libby volunteer Fire Department, along with Forest Service ground and helicopter crews responded to a fire on Plum Creek property above the Haul Road, commonly known as the Clay Banks. Fire crews were able to quickly gain control however, due to the high fire danger this had the potential to endanger many lives and homes. Investigators believe the cause of this fire to be arson.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Crimestoppers would like to remind everyone that because of the construction industry in full swing, less reputable persons are provided the opportunity to take advantage of those in need of home repairs. They specialize in construction scams nationwide and may be in this area. Scams can include all areas of construction but some of the most common are driveway pavers and roofers. The elderly are especially at risk.
On Tuesday, May 30th, it was reported that someone entered a property on Cedar Drive in Troy, took building materials and vandalized / keyed a vehicle. Estimated value of the building materials is unknown at this time. Anyone wishing to donate this space is asked to contact Keeli Anderson at 293-7781 ext 218. 04/11/06 03/27/06 For the past two years, unauthorized people have been transmitting on law enforcement radio frequencies. This activity has interfered not only with normal radio traffic but has also created a hazard in emergency situations. This seriously jeopardizes the safety of all emergency personnel as well as the victims seeking our assistance. 03/05/06 02/22/06 On the evening of Thursday, February 9th, a white 2003 GMC truck was parked next to the Deluxe Barber Shop at 221 Highway 2 West. A side window of the truck was broken out and the paint job on the truck was also damaged. Damage to this vehicle is estimated at $1500. 01/30/06 On Wednesday, April 13th 2005, at 3:00 in the afternoon, Libby Volunteer Fire Department, Libby Volunteer Ambulance, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies and Libby City Police Officers responded to a house fire located at 818 West Balsam. The house was occupied at the time the fire was ignited. A seventeen year old, 3 year old and seven month old baby were able to escape the house without injury. Fire Investigators have determined that the cause of the fire to be arson. The house was a total loss with damages estimating at $150,000. 12/27/05 On Friday December 23rd, it was reported that a cabin, located at 16947 Pipe Creek Road, had been broken into. The door had been kicked in and the following items were taken; a shotgun, rifle, generator, pair of binoculars, compass, candles and flashlights. Total cost of damages and value of stolen items is unknown at this time. 11/22/05 On Wednesday, October 19th, it was reported that the new Kootenai County sign on highway 2 south at the county line had been damaged. An unknown suspect backed into the sign, hooked onto the log that was across the top and pulled it off damaging the concrete on the top of the sign where the log was attached. Once the log was down the suspect used a chainsaw and cut off the end, taking it. Total cost of damages is unknown at this time. 09/09/05 On Sunday, August 6th a forest fire was detected in the Camp 32 / Phil’s Lake area in Rexford. At containment, the fire damaged 800 Acres including the loss of two outbuildings, land and one piece of heavy equipment. Suppression costs are estimated to be $2 million dollars. An investigation into the cause of this fire has determined the fire to be person caused. Information is requested to assist in solving this investigation by identifying individuals who may have been in the area between Camp 32 and Phil’s Lake, Saturday evening August 6th or Sunday morning August 7th. 08/23/05 On Wednesday, June 15th 2005, the theft of $20,000 has been reported from the old Branding Iron on Highway 2 South. 05/10/05 03-11-05 On Saturday morning, February 26th, it was discovered that Bob’s Auto Service, 611 East Larch, had been broken into and the following items were taken: a Snap-on analyzer, Snap-on trouble shooter, Skill saw, gear pulling set, air chisel, metric gear ratchet set, heavy duty drill, 3 pry bars, 3/8 air ratchet, ½ drive air wrench, die grinder, 4 oil filter wrenches and miscellaneous office supplies. Damage to the building and value of the stolen items is estimated at over $5,000. 02-11-05 Sometime between the afternoon of Sunday, January 23rd and the early morning hours of Monday, January 24th, someone broke into Plummer/ Headstart school Building and took the following items: two Bendix King hand held radios, a stereo, a new Dell computer tower, two VCR’s, and several other miscellaneous items. The value of the stolen items and damages to the building is estimated at over $3,500. 01-19-05 On Monday, January 10th, it was reported that three - four wheel ATV’s, a 2003 Kawasaki prairie 360 red in color, 2003 Kawasaki Prairie 650 red in color and a 2004 Bombardier 500 Green in color, had been taken from a residence on Middle Thompson Lake. The four wheelers had last been seen on this property sometime during the second week of November 2004. Estimated value of the four wheelers is over $10,000. 10-21-04 On Sunday, October 17th at approximately 11:30 PM, officers from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Libby Police Department responded to a 911 call of a robbery in progress at the Eagles Bar. An unknown male suspect entered the bar wearing dark clothing, a face mask, and was carrying a rifle with a scope. The suspect then locked the bartender and a patron in the bathrooms. He took approximately $1880.00 in cash and left the bar. 10-05-04 On Wednesday morning, September 15th, it was discovered that the Libby Sports Center had been broken into and the following guns were taken: 2 Ruger semi-auto 22 stainless handguns, a Smith and Wesson model M228 semi-auto 22 stainless handgun, 2 Taurus model 44 stainless revolvers and one Taurus model 444CP stainless revolver, all in 44 caliber. Damage to the building is estimated at $400, and value of the stolen guns is estimated at over $2600. On Monday September 13th, Timberline Auto reported that three vehicles had been vandalized. Damage to the vehicles is estimated at over $1000. 06-11-04 Sometime between 5:00 PM on Tuesday June 8th and 7:00 am on Wednesday June 9th someone drove around a locked gate at the Marcor EPA site two miles up Rainy Creek, and took the following items. A pressure washer, a 5000-watt portable generator, and a 4000-PSI pressure washer w/wand, hose, and 4 nozzles. The value of the stolen items is estimated at over $5,000. On Thursday, June 3rd, between the hours of 7:30 PM and 10:30 PM, someone stole a new red Yamaha ATV from the Camp Ground Hosts at Door Skeels Camp Ground. This ATV was recovered in Libby on June 5th behind Pamida close to the train tracks. There was a minimal amount of damage to the ATV. On Saturday Morning, May 29th, Troy Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies and Detectives were called out to an Arson / Burglary at the Conoco Minimart in Troy. The suspect broke a window to gain entry and took approximately $100 in change. The suspect should have detection powder on the sole of their footwear, and possibly on their clothing and skin. This detection powder is a bright purple color and is hard to eliminate after contact on the skin. Damage to the building is estimated at $5,000.00. During the evening of Monday, May 17th, two men cutting firewood discovered a cow elk in the Upper Terge Creek area that had been shot and killed. The elk was shot with a high caliber rifle and had traveled over the ridge from the West Pipe Creek side. The woodcutters reported hearing rifle shots shortly before they found the elk. The elk was pregnant with a calf and would have given birth in the near future. 06-3-04 On Friday, May 14th at 7:16 pm, the Libby Volunteer Fire Department had been paged to respond to 56 Shaughnessy hill for a trailer fire located behind Saverite South. Investigators believe this fire had been intentionally set between the hours of 6:35 and 6:45 pm. 05-14-04 On Tuesday May 4th at approximately 11 pm, Officers responded to the 200 block of Mineral Avenue in the alley behind Cardinal building center for an assault. Upon arrival officers made contact with the victim who sustained some minor injuries, the suspects had taken off on foot. The victim stated he had observed two young males knocking over garbage cans on the west side of Mineral Avenue. He yelled at them to pick up their mess, they crossed the street and assaulted him. Earlier the same evening a vehicle parked at the VFW had been vandalized estimated at approximately $300. After initial investigation officers recognized the description of the male suspects as possibly being involved in the assault, criminal mischief, and the vandalism. March 11, 2004 January 08, 2004 On Sunday, December 14th, between the hours of 2 and 4 am, someone driving a vehicle damaged the following properties. The Home Bar courtyard was driven through, the suspect caused extensive damage to several tables and the stage. The Troy Medical Arts Complex fence was also driven through causing damage to two fence sections. The LDS church on Lake Creek sustained damage to their chain link fence in two places. Several Traffic signs along Lake Creek were run over and destroyed. Total damages at this point are estimated at $6 to 8 thousand dollars. September 24, 2003 Sometime between the evening of September 13th and noon on September 15th, the Keeler Mtn Lookout was broken into. Entry was made by using a pry bar to break the hasps of the hatch door and lookout door. Items taken include: A Kenwood Mobile radio, several flashlights, 3 sleeping bags, 1 spotting scope, 2 pair binoculars, 1 20 lb propane tank, alarm clock, batteries D cell and AA’s, belt weather kit and numerous food items. September 02, 2003 In the late evening or early morning hours of Thursday, August 21st and Friday August 22nd, subjects in a vehicle on Iron Creek road out of Troy, shot and killed two whitetail does and left them in the field. Cattle were also present in the field where the deer were shot. This illegal action is a major reason landowners are closing down areas to hunters. Your help is requested in the identification of the individuals responsible for this crime. August 06, 2003 On Wednesday July 30th it was reported that windows had been shot out on 2 dump trucks a backhoe and a front end loader owned by P&S construction. The incident occurred on Rainbow Lake Road in the Happys Inn Area. Suspects also shot holes in a door of a public restroom. July 23, 2003 On Tuesday July 15th at approximately 1:30 A.M. The Libby Volunteer Fire Department responded to a garage fire at 1021 Louisiana Ave. The fire destroyed the garage and the vehicle parked inside. It also caused damage to the neighboring house. June 13, 2003 On Tuesday morning, June 10th, several Troy area businesses reported they were burglarized and cash had taken, The Medicine Tree, Troy Library, The Cutting Crew and Troy Conoco. Total cash taken from the businesses is approximately $200 dollars. Extensive property damage to the businesses totaling approximately $1,900. May 28, 2003 On Wednesday, May 14th, it was reported that tired had been slashed on several vehicles parked on Montana Ave, Nevada Ave, Washington Ave and Balsam Ave. Total estimated damages over $400. April 30, 2003 On Tuesday, April 15th, it was reported that the 4 corners Restaurant in Eureka had been broken into. Several doors were broken, locks had been cut off and offices had been gone through. $3,077.00 in U.S. cash was taken, $905.00 in Canadian Cash (worth $579.00 U.S.), $50 in quarters. Total estimated damages and cash taken is over $4,000. April 24, 2003 Recently vandals have struck several businesses on Missoula Ave. and Kootenai Ave. in Troy. On January 24, 2003, there was a break-in at Auntie's Bakery and $350 cash was stolen. On March 28, 2003, a side door was kicked in at Troy Auto Parts and $700 cash was stolen from the store. On February 7, 2003 two windows at Larson Lumber were broken. Estimated loss is approximately $1800. February 25, 2003 During the early morning hours of Wednesday February 19th, several vehicles were vandalized at Don K Motors, Timberline Auto and Jenkins Motors. Thirteen vehicles were extensively damaged with a total of approximately $10,000 in damages. February 5, 2003 On Tuesday, January 21st, between 9 and 11 pm, BNSF stack trains were burglarized. About 20 containers were broken into in the Fisher river area and near Pamida. It is unknown at this time the total value of the items stolen. January 16, 2003 On Thursday, January 2nd, it was reported that over $10,000 worth of items were taken from a garage/residence on Louisiana Avenue. Two Napa top chest 8 drawer rollaway tool boxes containing Mac, Craftsman and Snap-on brand hand tools, a craftsman nail gun, 2 professional paint guns (Sharps – platinum and Binks – Big Bertha), Stihl 046 chainsaw with 28” bar, and a bell full face Motorcycle helmet white w/red flames. January 3, 2003 Between Tuesday evening, December 17th, and Wednesday morning, December 18th, unknown person or persons broke into the Nordic Auction building. The building was entered and approximately $210 in cash was taken. Seven (7) battery chargers were taken, estimated value at over $300. Nineteen (19) radio-controlled cars were taken, Traxxas, Ofna, Tamiya, Team Association, HPI and LOSI brand radio controlled cars, estimated value at over $11,000 dollars. December 6, 2002 On Tuesday, November 26, between 7:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., someone entered a residence on Highway 2 South and removed two model airplanes and a large framed map of the world. One airplane was a white Piper J-3 Cub with 6 foot wingspan and the words “Res Dogs” painted on the tail, valued at $1,000. The second is a yellow Piper J-3 Cub with 5 foot wingspan, valued at $400. The framed map had Captain Cook’s explorations marked out on it and is valued at $300. November 22, 2002 Between Saturday evening, November 16, and Monday morning, November 18, unknown person or persons broke into buildings at the Lincoln County landfill on Pipe Creek. A shop building was entered and nearly all of the air tools were taken, including a ½ inch impact wrench, 3/8 inch impact wrench, disk grinder, socket sets, ratchet set, micrometer, handtools and other various wrenches. A wheelbarrow was also taken from the shop building, but was later located in the parking area. The main office building was also entered where two Midland handheld radios and a battery operated grease gun were taken. Subjects also pried open a door to a trailer which belongs to the Environmental Impact Center, removing a charger for a drill. Damage to the doors is estimated at $1,000, and value of the stolen items is estimated at over $5,000. November 4, 2002 On Tuesday, October 15, a hit and run accident occurred at noon on Louisiana and 3rd street near the hospital. A vehicle struck the driver’s side of a tan and brown 1978 Buick, causing extensive damage. The driver of the suspect vehicle gave false ID information, then left the scene of the accident before law enforcement arrived, stating he was going to the hospital. Police searched the area but were unable to locate him. The suspect is described as a large, white male and the vehicle he was driving is described as a large, white, older car. This car will possibly have front damage to the driver’s side and should have a large amount of tan and brown paint transfer on it. October 15, 2002 On Saturday, September 28, a statue was reported vandalized outside the St. Joseph Catholic Church. The statue of a praying woman had been taken from the church grounds and was found in the eastbound lane of Lincoln Boulevard in front of the church. The head of the statue was missing. A window of the church was also broken in the area where the statue had been taken. On Wednesday, October 2, it was reported that several additional windows had been broken in the same area of the church. Estimated damage to the statue is $1,000 and $200 to replace the broken windows. September 24, 2002 On Monday morning, September 23, it was discovered that SJ Orr Services south of Libby on Highway 2 had been broken into with extensive damage to the interior of the building. Money was taken from a drawer in one of the offices. On Tuesday morning, September 24, Twinkle Welding west of Libby reported a second break-in to their business. Thieves took several winches from the store totaling over $4,000. Total loss from this break-in and one reported on September 18 is over $7,000. September 20, 2002 Between Wednesday and Thursday, September 19 and 20, thefts occurred at two area businesses. On Wednesday, the owner of Twinkle Welding south of Libby on Highway 2, reported a break-in to the business and the theft of 2 Warn winches, KC stainless steel daybrite lights, and at least one set of Dee Zee 1800 mud flaps, as well as a small amount of change. On Thursday, the owner of Kootenai Truck Repair, also near Libby on south Highway 2, reported the theft of 16 new tires that had been delivered the previous day. Two commercial track truck tires, two Sumitomo truck tires, four Goodyear truck tires, four Michelin XZE tires, and four Kumho commercial track tires were taken, for a total value of $4,740. September 10, 2002 Sometime after 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, several thefts from vehicles occurred south of Libby. An aluminum diamond plated tool box with Craftsman brand socket sets, a Craftsman cordless drill, metric and regular open end wrench sets, and numerous other hand tools including electrical testers was taken from the trunk of a 1994 Cadillac at a residence on Wards Road. Two vehicles were entered at another residence on Wards Road where a small amount of change was taken after suspects went through the gloveboxes and center consoles. Two vehicles parked at a third residence on Wards Road were entered and a stereo was removed from the dash of one of the vehicles. A CB radio was taken from an International semi truck parked on Vicks Lane and two vehicles were entered at a residence on Farm to Market Road. Taken from one of the vehicles were numerous CD’s of various artists and a silver chain necklace with a clear dolphin inscribed with the victim’s name. Value of the CD’s is estimated at over $1,400. A Panasonic stereo was removed from the second vehicle.
August 27, 2002 Between 11:00 Friday night, the 10th of August, and 8:00 the next morning, Saturday, the 11th, vandals caused damage to the top of the Libby Dam on the north end by the visitor center parking lot. Locks on two gates had been tampered with and inspection doors were opened on a grader, allowing access to the engine of the machine. The fire extinguisher from the grader was later found floating in the water and it had been discharged. The stop sign at the corner where the grader was parked had been pulled out of the ground and left at another location by the visitor center. August 16, 2002 Sometime during the weekend of July 27 and 28, 2002, unknown person or persons shot and wounded “Lance”, a 10 year old Appaloosa gelding, and “Hedwig”, a 4 year old mule. Both animals have lost their eyesight as a result of being shot. The incident happened in a pasture bordered by Tetrault Lake Road and Airport Road near Eureka. The mule, “Hedwig”, is valued at $500 and the gelding, “Lance”, is valued at $2,000. August 8, 2002 On Tuesday, July 30, it was discovered that eight out of twelve Bonneville Power insulators in the Wolf Creek area had been shot. It is believed this occurred approximately one week earlier, causing power interruptions from west of Kalispell to about 15 miles north of Libby. The damage also affected the Libby Dam. Damage estimates, including the power outages that it caused, would amount to over $10,000. June 20, 2002 Sometime during the night of Monday, June 16, to the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 17, mailboxes from the Remp Extension area, Farm to Market Road area, and several other locations around Libby, were taken from their posts. 16 mailboxes and 2 paper boxes were later recovered where they had been dumped in a yard in front of a residence on Bowker Street south of Libby. June 6, 2002 During the end of May, the concessions stand at the baseball fields near the cemetery was broken into and numerous items taken. On Monday, May 20, someone entered the building and took candy and pop worth approximately $100. The following Monday, May 27, the building was again broken into, and this time the suspect or suspects took over $1,000 worth of candy bars and concessions items, including two buckets of individually wrapped bubble gum. Also taken were a large deep fryer and a George Foreman grill. May 21, 2002 On Saturday, May 18, a theft was reported from a residence being built on Five Mile Creek off Highway 37 north of Libby. Taken from the log home was a Kohler gas powered generator valued at $6,000; a toilet, pressure tank, miscellaneous plumbing fixtures, log railing, and a laundry sink basin. May 09, 2002 On Monday morning, April 29, the Northern Energy building on West Highway 2 was reported broken into and a bank bag was taken with cash and checks totaling over $1500. The following Monday morning, May 6, PJ’s Café on South Highway 2 also reported being burglarized and cash taken of about $100. A window had been broken to gain entry into the café. April 09, 2002 On Sunday morning, March 31, it was discovered that the Koocanusa Marina on Highway 37 north of Libby had been broken into and numerous items taken. Most of the items were boxes of stockpiled merchandise for the marina and included shirts, sunglasses, lighters, Chapstick, beef jerky, razors, yo-yos, and miscellaneous food and beverage items, along with various fishing equipment, an Argus 35mm camera, and a set up and design for embroidery work valued at $780. Total value of items taken is over $4,600. March 28, 2002 On Tuesday, March 26th, approximately 11:30 pm, 2 display windows were broken at the Dome Theatre on Mineral avenue. The cost to repair the windows is estimated at $240. March 08, 2002 On Wednesday, March 6th, damage to the rear wall of the post office building was reported. The wall is a stucco type construction over a Styrofoam board material. In several places the exterior has been damaged exposing the Styrofoam underneath. There are several small round indentations that appear to have burn marks in them, possibly caused by cigarettes. The cost to repair the damage is estimated at $3000. February 20, 2002 On Thursday, February 7th, it was reported that 74 pieces of furniture are missing from Libby Woodworks, located at 551 hwy 2 west. (9) mission style birch coffee tables, (20) mission style alder end tables, (42) mission style birch end tables, and (3) pine benches were taken. Total estimated value $2,436. January 30, 2002 On Wednesday, January 16th, it was reported that a building at the Industrial Park on City Service Rd had been broken into. A Makita Grinder, Ryobi cutoff saw, Gerber multi tool and other miscellaneous tools were taken. Total estimated value $1050. January 8, 2002 Sometime over the weekend of Friday, December 28 to Monday, December 31, four BF Goodrich model LT-315/75 R-16 tires with Ultra 50 chromed aluminum size 16 wheels were taken from Kootenai Truck Repair on south Highway 2. The value of the tires is $1,000 and the value of the wheels is $1,200. The wheels are for a 2000 Ford F-350 pickup. January 3, 2002 During the night of Tuesday, December 17, and Wednesday morning, December 18, a Burton snowboard, Nordica black ski boots, blue Burton jacket, Northface gortex jacket, and between 100 and 150 CD’s were taken from a vehicle parked at a residence on Louisiana in Libby. The blue Burton jacket had a Ski Patrol First Aid patch embroidered on the chest and is valued at $200. December 28, 2001 Between Friday, November 16, and Monday morning, November 19, over $1,000 worth of logging equipment being stored at a job site on Swede Mountain was stolen. The equipment included a Husqvarna model 372 chainsaw with 24" bar, four wedges, and various other logging tools. December 12, 2001 Sometime during this weekend, a work truck parked at a job site on the McKillop Road was broken into and over $3,000 worth of tools was taken, including:

Total property loss in these three crimes is $38,670. Law Enforcement has reason to believe the suspect(s) live in the Kalispell/Flathead area. Anyone with information on any of these thefts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 406-293-STOP, or the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Crimestoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and arraignment of those responsible for these crimes. Callers may remain anonymous when calling or collecting the reward. On Saturday, November 24, a tent near Loon Lake was entered and several items were taken, including a Honda generator valued at $750, a pair of Windriver binoculars, a Leupold 12x40 spotting scope, and three bi-pods. During this same time period, a residence on the ACM Road was broken into and items taken also. A 2002 Honda ATV was taken from the garage, and a Beretta A390 pistol and a Browning 30-06 bolt action rifle were taken from in the house, along with a pair of Zeiss binoculars. On the morning of Saturday, October 13, it was discovered that the First Baptist Church in Eureka had been broken into and numerous items had been taken, including a single disk CD player, a 5 disk CD player, two cassette tape decks, two guitars valued at $1,000, a large brass cross valued at $1,500, a VCR, and a communion set valued at over $1,000. Total estimated loss is over $4,000. On Saturday, November 3, it was reported that two chainsaws had been taken from a residence on East Maple in Libby. One saw is a Stihl model 044 valued at $620, and the second is a Stihl model 066, valued at $600. The saws were last seen the previous evening, Friday, November 2. Sometime between the evening hours of Monday, October 8 and Tuesday, October 9, a van parked at a residence on Avondale Road was broken into and four toolboxes were taken. One of the toolboxes contained pipe wrenches, and Craftsman sockets and ratchets. The other three toolboxes contained adjustable wrenches and pipe wrenches, and various other tools, mostly Craftsman brand, including some adjustable spray tips. All toolboxes were yellow with black handles and had double trays. The tools and toolboxes are valued at over $3,000. Early Monday morning, October 1st, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received several reports of burglaries in both the Libby and Eureka area. Granite Concrete, Amerigas, and Best Auto Body located south of Libby on Highway 2 reported break-ins to their offices. In Eureka, Timberline Ready Mix on Highway 37 and Western Building Center and Eureka Northern Energy on Highway 93 reported similar break-ins to their businesses. It appears the suspects were looking for money during the burglaries and it is yet undetermined whether anything else was taken. On Tuesday, September 18, it was reported that several US flags which were flying at half-staff in remembrance of those who died during the terrorist attacks the week before had been burned around the Libby area. Flags at the Chamber of Commerce visitor center, Libby High School, the National Guard Armory, the Forest Service supervisor’s office, and at least three residences had been torched sometime during the early morning hours. In addition, a Montana flag was destroyed at the armory and a POW/MIA flag was burned at the Chamber of Commerce. On Thursday, August 23, it was reported that a burglary had taken place at a residence on south Highway 2 in Libby. A shop next to the residence had been broken into and miscellaneous tools were missing from inside. Other items from in the shop had been stacked next to the door. Between Thursday, August 9, and Saturday morning, August 11, unknown suspect or suspects destroyed a computer box that had been chained to a road sign post approximately ¼ mile up the Fisher Road. The box had been placed there by the Montana Department of Transportation to collect data. A connection had been broken off and the internal components were damaged, causing $1,000 worth of damage. Sometime between Saturday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 18, several vandalisms were reported to the Troy Police Department. Windows were broken in the City Hall Annex, and a break-in and vandalism occurred at the concession stand at the city ballpark. Windows were were broken at the Morrison Elementary School and four tires were slashed on a pickup parked in the 300 block of Hwy 2. Value of the tires is $1,000. Sometime during the night of Monday July 2 and Tuesday morning, July 3, unknown suspects vandalized logging equipment being stored on Pipe Creek Road. An Aarco all terrain 8 wheeled amphibious vehicle was taken and later located in the old race track area. During the last two weeks of May, numerous thefts occurred around the Libby area involving break-ins to residences and vehicles. Over the weekend of May 18 to 21, a cabin under construction on the Yaak River Road was broken into and tools were taken from several rooms inside the house. Stolen items include a Makita cordless drill, Makita power drill, Makita power planer, leather tool belt, skillsaw, Dewalt cordless drill, several hammers and miscellaneous tools. On Sunday, May 27, a Taurus 9mm pistol and a purse containing credit cards and cash were taken from a pickup that was broken into while parked at Kootenai Falls. That same night a vehicle parked at Bootjack Lake south of Libby was entered and several items were taken from the cab, including a Marlin .22 9 shot semi-automatic rifle, a Colt .22 single shot rifle, a Canon 35mm camera with several lenses, 22 CD’s, and a wallet containing credit cards and cash. Between Tuesday, May 1, and Saturday, May 5, an antique Remington 30 caliber lever action rifle was taken from a residence south of Libby. This is a very rare type rifle with an octagon barrel and is valued at $1200. Early Friday morning, May 4, a string of burglaries were reported in the Libby area. Dream Marine and the Kingdom Hall, both located on Highway 37, Libby Floral and the Nelson and Vial Funeral Home, were all broken into sometime during the previous night. Drawers and file cabinets were pried open causing damage to the property. It appears the suspect was looking for money as the only items missing were bank bags with small amounts of cash. On Saturday, April 7, it was discovered that sometime after 8:00 p.m. the previous evening, the Farm to Market Store east of Libby had been broken into. Several rolls of quarters, nickels and dimes were taken from the till. On Saturday, April 21, it was discovered that a storage unit at a residence on Cedar Creek road had been entered and several items taken. Locks had been pried off the storage unit to gain entrance. Taken from the storage unit was a Husquvarna 262XP chainsaw, a Craftsman 2.5kw generator with battery charger and wheel kit, a Makita 9v screwgun with holster and accessories, a Yale 3/4 ton chain hoist, several batteries and miscellaneous tools. Total value of items taken is over $2,000. Around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, March 29, numerous windows around the Libby area were broken by large rocks being thrown at them. The vandalism included windows of businesses, homes, and vehicles. A resident reported 2 rocks had been thrown through a living room window on West 2nd Street at approximately 3:30. Also around this time, a resident in the 200 block of Colorado heard someone throw a rock through their car window and found several large rocks in the yard. Another resident heard dogs barking around 3:00 in the 1400 block of Dakota and later found damage to the windows of their Ford truck. Rocks were thrown through the front window of KLCB radio station, the front door window of Ho Wun Restaurant on Highway 2 West, and a window of Indian Head Honda, also on Highway 2 West. Burlington Northern reported a rock had broken out the back window of one of their vehicles parked at the Legion ball field. Sometime between the end of February and the first two weeks of March, unknown suspects entered a residence on Kootenai River Road and removed several items. Missing from the residence is a Maytag washer and dryer, approximately a year old, a VCR, and several hunting knives. Also taken was a 1997 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x4 ATV, olive drab in color. On Saturday, February 3rd, approximately 10:00 at night, a hit and run accident occurred on Bull Lake Road at milepost 28 when a southbound vehicle pulled into oncoming traffic, sideswiping a pickup truck that had swerved to avoid a head-on collision. The accident caused extensive damage to the driver's side of the pickup truck and the suspect vehicle continued on without stopping at the scene. Suspect vehicle parts collected at the scene include the driver's side molding, window molding, window, reflectors, and mirror. These parts have tentatively been identified as possibly coming from a Subaru wagon, mid to late 80's, yellow or cream in color. A tire was recovered a short distance down the road which may have come from the driver's side front wheel. Sometime between Wednesday, December 20, and the following week on the 27th, a home on Bull Lake Road near Troy was burglarized and several items were taken. Included in the items taken was a Remington .243 9 lock lug rifle with clip, a .222 Remington 700, a Stevens .22 semi-auto pistol, A Smith and Wesson model 39 9MM semi-auto pistol, a 10MM semi-auto pistol, and an old fiddle and case. During the month of December, the new fence around the ball field in Troy on Yaak Avenue was damaged on three different occasions. Estimated value of the damage is over $800. On Sunday morning, December 10, it was discovered that unknown persons had broken into a business on Spruce Street in Libby. Suspects removed a new Dell Dimension L800R computer, monitor, printer, and fax machine from the business office. On Monday December 11, it was reported that the McCormick Fire Station had been broken into and a TV, VCR, and 2 five gallon cans of gas had been taken. On Wednesday evening, November 15, sometime after 7:00 p.m., a beige 1998 Toyota pickup with Montana license #56T-F505, was taken from in front of a residence on Post Street in Libby. This same date, just before midnight, a red 1986 Nissan pickup with Oregon license #XTN070, was stolen from in front of the Mint Bar on Mineral Avenue. Sometime over the last several months, a garage on Highway 2 West near Troy was broken into and numerous items were taken. Some of the items taken include oxygen and acetylene tanks, a 396 shortblock motor, a 350 4 bolt main shortblock, a yellow portable plasma cutter, two grey Craftsman 3 ton floor jacks, a red rolling sand blaster, small grey Craftsman tool box, porta power set in an orange metal box, Homelite chainsaw, and a chrome grill guard for a small pickup. Value of the property taken is approximately $4,000. Sometime before midnight Saturday, October 7, a vehicle drove through the fence at the Libby airport, tearing out approximately 200 feet of fencing. Damages are estimated at over $1,000. Sometime during the night of Monday, October 2, to Tuesday morning, October 3, the Eagles building on Highway 2 in Libby, was broken into and several items were taken, including bank bags containing cash. On Sunday, July 30, it was reported that a home on Enders Drive had been entered and several items were taken, including a large 3 to 4 foot wood carving of a mountain man with eagle and bear, and a smaller wood carving of a whale. During the night of Wednesday, August 23, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a wildland fire was intentionally set along Highway 56, Bull Lake Road, 1/2 mile south of mile post 26. Unknown person(s) used an incendiary device to start the fire. A pickup truck was observed leaving the scene directly after the fire was started. This vehicle is described as a full sized, two-tone, 1995 to 1998 GMC or Chevy extended cab. On Friday evening, August 4, a vehicle parked on the Champion Haul Road at about the 6.8 mile marker, was extensively vandalized, causing over $3,000 in damages. Sometime between Sunday evening, June 18, and Tuesday morning, June 20, several storage units were broken into west of Libby at the Mountain Mini Storage. Taken from one unit were baby books, diaries and jewelry of sentimental value to the owner, as well as a fishing tackle box and other small items. A second unit had two float tubes and a three room tent taken. On Thursday, June 1, it was reported that a YZ250 Yamaha dirt bike had been taken from a residence on Dakota. The 2000 Yamaha bike is blue and white with a #4 on the front and side. It had been customized and was valued at $6,900. Over the weekend of Saturday, June 3, or Sunday, June 4, a car stereo and amplifier were taken from a display at Libby Appliance and Furniture. The MTX brand stereo and model Thunder 1500 DX amp were valued at $450. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office has received numerous complaints of criminal mischief, criminal trespass to vehicles, and thefts around the Libby area over the past several weeks. On Thursday morning, May 25, there were three reported break-ins to vehicles with items taken such as cell phones, CD carrying cases with CD's, and stereo and radio equipment. There were also at least ten complaints of lawns being driven over and damaged, especially in the Woodway Park and Mahoney Acres areas. Some of these vandalisms have resulted in over $1,000 total property value including damage to the vehicles by breaking windows and destroying dashes, etc., when removing stereo and CD equipment. Sometime between Sunday, February 20, and Tuesday morning, February 22, the electronic programmable postage scale was taken from the Troy Post Office. The Triner TS-30 scale was taken from the lobby where it had been padlocked to a countertop. It is valued at approximately $700. On Friday, February 18, a vehicle parked at the Bear Creek ski track parking lot was broken into. Over $1,300 worth of property was taken from the vehicle, including a pair of leather telemark ski boots, Bushnell binoculars, two duffle bags, Sony Walkman with headphones, cassette tapes, prescription sunglasses, a blue ski coat, and miscellaneous ski clothing. There have been other incidents of thefts from vehicles at this same location this ski season, including the theft of wallets and food from a blazer on Tuesday, January 11. Entry was made to both vehicles by breaking out a window, and both thefts have occurred during daylight hours. Early Friday morning, Jan. 28, it was reported that the Animal shelter on Pipe Creek Road had been broken into and numerous items were stolen, including a Radio Shack answering machine, a portable CD/tape player, cassette tape case with miscellaneous cassette tapes, and a digital alarm clock. Also taken but later recovered, was a money bag that contained syringes and needles. |
